In his forty-seven year association with Berea College, Charles Noble Shutt touched virtually every aspect of the college from the placement of closets in Draper building to the organization of the academic departments. Abstract
The Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, working with the Berea College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, first formulated a statement on academic freedom and tenure for the College in 1965. In April 1968, the Recommended Statement on Academic Freedom was approved by the College Faculty and adopted by the Board of Trustees. The committee continued to make recommendations on overall policy to be referred to the College Faculty for action.
